New Delhi: Delhi Police have detained another man in connection with the assault on Chief Minister Rekha Gupta at her Civil Lines residence earlier this week. The man, who has been detained, hails from Rajkot, Gujarat and has been identified as Tahseen Saiyed.
He was picked up for questioning after investigators discovered that he had transferred Rs 2,000 to the primary accused, Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakariya. Saiyed was taken to Delhi after being interrogated along with four others in Rajkot, reports claimed. Investigators are probing possible links and financial involvement in the case.
The development comes days after Rajesh Sakriya, a 41-year-old resident of Rajkot, attacked the Chief Minister during a “Jan Sunwai” grievance redressal meeting at her Civil Lines residence. Sakriya allegedly slapped Rekha Gupta and pulled her hair before being overpowered by security personnel. He was arrested on the spot and later remanded to five days of police custody. The police have booked him under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including sections related to attempted murder and obstructing a public servant from performing duties.
Officials said they are examining whether the money transfer indicates a larger conspiracy or any coordinated planning behind the incident. Meanwhile, the case has triggered a major political row, with the Aam Aadmi Party alleging that Delhi Police are withholding key CCTV footage of the attack. The party also drew parallels with previous assaults on former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, accusing authorities of negligence in ensuring security.
Amid the controversy, Rekha Gupta has reiterated her commitment to public outreach, announcing that grievance hearings will now be organized not only at the Chief Minister’s residence but across all constituencies. She said the attack would not deter her from meeting citizens and addressing their concerns. The investigation is continuing, with police focusing on the financial trail and any possible accomplices in the assault plot.
