Bhubaneswar: After a month-long chase, Gujarat Police have arrested a person from Aradi area in Odisha for the alleged murder of another Odia youth in the western-most Indian state over some monetary dispute.
The accused has been identified as Manoj Sahu, a native of Jesuapalli Balisahi village in Mahakalpada of Kendrapada district. and deceased as Gurucharan Pradhan of Cuttack.
Manoj ran a variety store at Surat.
According to police, Gurucharan had to pay Rs 25,000 to Manoj for a refrigerator. The dispute escalated on October 10 when he refused to pay him the amount. Following which, Manoj, in a fit of rage, allegedly struck Gurucharan with an iron rod. He then concealed the body in a washing machine and fled.
A week later, local residents found a foul smell coming from the house and alerted police, which examined CCTV cameras in the area for some clue. Gurajat Police later tracked Manoj down by tracing his phone location and nabbed him with the help of local police on November 15.
While admitting to the crime, Manoj said that Gurucharan along with two others had come to kill me. “He died when I accidentally struck him,” he added.
Another crime in Tamil Nadu
On November 14, Palladam police arrested an employee of a textile mill in Tiruppur district, Tamil Nadu, for allegedly murdering his co-worker’s six-year-old son to avenge his demotion and get back the supervisor post. Kanhu Das (34), a native of Ranital in Odisha, smothered Ganesh to death on November 8 after luring the minor boy on the pretext of collecting peafowl eggs. He was the son of his co-worker Anita Naik from Suramani village in Ganjam district in Odisha.
Das was demoted after he was found drunk during the duty time and another employee, Suresh, was promoted to the post of supervisor. He was under the impression that Suresh and Anita were in love and they would leave the place if he killed Anita’s son.
