Bhadrak: A woman from Gujarat allegedly consumed phenyl in an attempt to kill herself inside a police station for police inaction on the complaint against her husband in Odisha’s Bhadrak district.
According to police sources, the woman, Niral Modi, belonged to Ahmedabad in Gujarat. While she was the owner of an IT firm, Manoj Nayak from Narsinghpur village under Bonth police station in Bhadrak was an employee.
In course of time, they came close to each other and got married. They have a two-year-old son. Some time back, Manoj told his wife to start a business in his village and arrange the fund.
Niral agreed to the proposal and sold her house and company to raise around Rs 5 crore. She also gave the money to Manoj to start the new venture. But Manoj fled with the money leaving Niral and their son in the village.
As Manoj remained untraced for some time, Niral found a missing complaint at Bonth police station. As the police reportedly neither traced her husband nor took any step on her complaint, Niral went to the police station on Saturday and consumed phenyl
The police rushed her to District Headquarters Hospital in Bhadrak. Her condition was stated to be serious.
However, the IIC of Bonth police station, Sriballav Sahoo, dismissed Niral’s allegation of inaction. A team including an inspector and two sub-inspectors was actively searching for Manoj and has already visited several locations, including Rourkela, Sambalpur, and Berhampur, he said.
