Gujarat’s Smritivan Earthquake Memorial Now Among World’s 7 Most Beautiful Museums

Ahmedabad: The Smritivan Earthquake Memorial in Gujarat’s Bhuj has been listed as one of the world’s seven most beautiful museums by Prix Versailles Award presented by UNESCO every year.

Smritivan is India’s first museum to have received international recognition for its adherence to local culture and environmental conservation, ANI reported.

“Smritivan in Kutch is a tribute to those we lost in the tragic Earthquake of 2001. It is a reminder of human resilience and courage as well. Glad that this Museum has found a place on the World Selection for the Prix Versailles Museums 2024,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X..

The museum, spread over an area of 470 acres on Bhujio Hill in Bhuj, was inaugurated on August 22, 2022 by the Indian Prime Minister in memory of people who lost their lives in the tragic earthquake that hit Kutch on January 26, 2001.
