Nabarangpur: The three women, who were found hanging from a tree in Umerkote area of the district last Saturday, have been confirmed to have committed suicide.
Citing the post-mortem report of the deceased, the police said the three women died of strangulation. Their bodies did not have any external or internal injuries, the post-mortem revealed.
According to the police investigation, the three women, identified as Hemalata Gouda, Koushalya Majhi and Phulamati Majhi of Tohra village under Umerkote block were close friends. On the fateful day, they wanted to go to a fair in the village but their families did not allow them.
On the same evening, they went to a forest near their village and hanged themselves from a tree with the help of their stoles. After a frantic search, their families had found them hanging in the forest.
According to sources, Hemalata had got married 4 years back. But she had returned to her parents due to differences with her husband. During her stay with her parents, she developed friendship with Koushalya and Phulamati.
