Hanuma, Ashwin Defy Australia As Third Test Ends In Draw
Bhubaneswar: The grim determination of Hanuma Vihari and Ravichandran Ashwin helped India draw the Third Test against Australia in Sydney on Monday.
Resuming their overnight score at 98 for 2, India lost the early wicket of captain Ajinkya Rahane who got out for only four runs with the score at 102 for 3.
However, Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant launched a counter-attack with an excellent century partnership before Pant got out with a score of 97 runs.
With the dismissal of Pant followed by Pujara (77), it seemed that the hosts were on the verge of a win. However, Vihari and Ashwin batted doggedly for 43 overs and drew the match.
While Vihari remained not out at 23 off 161 balls, Ashwin remained unbeaten at 39 off 128 balls.
Brief score: Australia 338 and 312 for 6
India: 244 and 334 for 5
