Mumbai: After a 38-year-old man from Kurar in Mumbai, who was allegedly being harassed by loan recovery agents, died by suicide on May 4, teams from Mumbai Police have left for Odisha and Delhi to hunt down the agents involved in the May 4 and other cases here.
The man from Kurar had not even taken a loan, according to reports.
The loan recovery agents, hired by loan apps, often harass the victims by sharing their morphed photos or videos with family and friends.
The Kurar police have registered a fourth case in recent days of a man being harassed by loan recovery agents. The victim, a 36-year-old LIC agent, had on April 26 borrowed Rs 3,500 from an app to boost his CIBIL Score. Despite repaying the money, the recovery agents threatened to make an obscene video of him and upload it on social media, which they did, uploading a morphed video, police said.
In another case, a private company employee who had taken a loan of ₹3,800 was asked to pay ₹7000. When he refused, they circulated his morphed photos.
In a similar case, a 36-year-old man had downloaded an app called Jane Coin Loan app. He was given ₹6,362 as loan even after deleting the app. And despite repaying Rs 11,004, recovery agents circulated his morphed photos.
