American motorcycle maker Harley-Davidson on Tuesday unveiled its first fully-electric motorcycle in India.
The Harley Davidson Livewire features a 15.5 kWh lithium battery and a permanent magnet electric motor that produces 78 kW or 104.6 bhp power and peak torque of 116 Nm. Being an electric vehicle, the whole torque is available right from zero rpm. The gearless motorcycle can do 0 to 100 kmph in just 3 seconds!
The massive battery ensures a healthy city range of 225 km and 142 km for highways. It can be recharged in an hour using DC fast charger.
The motorcycle will have 7 riding modes, including 4 pre-installed ones – Road, Rain, Sport and Range. There are three more fully customisable modes where the acceleration rate, brake regeneration, throttle response and traction control settings can be fully customised.
The motorcycle will be launched globally sometime in late 2019 or early 2020, and the India launch dates will be known after that. The price in USA is $29,799 and it is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 40-50 lakh in India.
