New Delhi: The Haryana State Commission for Women called for the arrest of rapper Badshah after he failed to appear before the panel in connection with his controversial ‘Tateeree’ song.
During a media interaction, Chairperson Renu Bhatia told the press that she has directed the Panipat police to seize Badshah’s passport so that he cannot leave the country.
“I have ordered SP Panipat to get Badshah arrested from anywhere, any place and issue search orders,” Renu was quoted as saying by PTI.
A lawyer representing Badshah told reporters that they had sought more time, as the summons had not been received.
“Under the law, everyone has the right to present their side. But here that is not being given,” the lawyer said.
Following a notice issued on March 6, Badshah was directed to appear before the women’s commission by 3 PM on Friday in connection with his controversial Haryanvi music video “in which Haryana daughters have been insulted with inappropriate words and language.”
Following backlash and FIRs, Badshah took to his Instagram to apologise for hurting feelings.
The Panchkula Police have started the process to issue a look-out circular against Badshah to stop him from leaving the country.
A notice has also been sent asking the rapper to appear before the authorities.
In a statement on Saturday, the Haryana Police said that several police teams have been formed to arrest him, and raids are being carried out at possible locations.
“The use of words such as Badshala in the song has also been found to depict the school environment and education in a misleading and inappropriate manner. Furthermore, objectionable and derogatory expressions towards women and girls have also been identified in the lyrics,” read their statement.
