New Delhi: The Haryana State Commission for Women (HSCW) has summoned rapper-singer Badshah over alleged objectionable lyrics in his recently-released Haryanvi track ‘Tateeree’.
The song has been criticised by several sections, with complainants alleging that some lyrics are indecent and violate cultural norms and modesty.
Taking suo motu cognisance of the controversy, the commission said it is concerned about the potential impact of such content, particularly on women and minors.
HSCW chairperson Renu Bhatia confirmed that the panel has initiated proceedings after receiving multiple complaints.
She noted that lyrics with objectionable language could negatively influence audiences, especially younger listeners.
According to the summons issued on March 6, the case names Badshah, whose real name is Aditya Pratik Singh Sisodia, as the primary respondent.
The notice has also been addressed to the Superintendent of Police in Panipat, directing local authorities to ensure the presence of all concerned parties at the hearing.
The commission has scheduled the hearing for March 13 at 11.30 am in the Conference Hall of the DC Office in Panipat, with Bhatia presiding.
The complaints were filed by Savita Arya, president of the Nari Tu Narayani Utthan Samiti in Panipat, and Shiv Kumar, director of the Shiv Aarti India Foundation.
Both alleged that ‘Tateeree’ contains objectionable vocabulary and sexualised references that objectify women and minors.
The complainants have urged the commission to take strict action against those responsible for content that they claim crosses social and moral boundaries.
Speaking about the matter, Bhatia also questioned the regulatory process that allowed the song to be released.
Referring to her previous tenure as a member of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), she expressed concern that a track with potentially offensive content could receive clearance.
“It is important to understand how such lyrics pass regulatory scrutiny, especially when they affect public morality and cultural sensitivity,” Renu was quoted as saying to ANI.
The Haryanvi hip‑hop single ‘Tateeree’ was released on March 1. The song’s lyrics were written by Badshah, while the music was composed by Hiten, who was also in charge of its production. The official music video was directed by Mahi Sandhu and Joban Sandhu.
