Rourkela: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) havildar allegedly died by suicide in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Monday morning.
According to sources, the havildar, identified as 56-year-old Subash Prasad, shot himself with his service rifle at the Matkamjharan CRPF camp under Lathikata police limits at around 5.30-6 am. The deceased was a native of Nandpur village in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district.
Prasad is believed to have taken the extreme step due to personal or family-related issues.
On being informed, Lathikata police rushed to the spot, recovered the body, and launched an investigation. The body has been kept at a government health facility in Rourkela and the postmortem will be conducted after his family arrives in the state.
This comes four days after a police constable working in Odisha’s Nayagarh district allegedly killed himself with his service pistol.
