HC Admits Plea Challenging Election Of Odisha Deputy CM K V Singhdeo

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court has admitted a petition, challenging the election of BJP MLA and Deputy Chief Minister K V Singhdeo from Patnagarh Assembly constituency in 2024 polls.

KV wrested the Patnagarh assembly seat by defeating his nearest rival Saroj Kumar Meher of the BJD.

Meher, who lost by a margin of 1,357 votes, filed the election petition, praying to declare the election as void on the ground of improper acceptance of his nomination papers by the returning officer, despite non-compliance with statutory provisions. He also questioned the election on the ground of non-furnishing of the original affidavits with each sets of nomination papers and detailed and correct particulars of his movable and immovable assets and their correct values, Live & Law reported.

After a preliminary hearing, the single judge bench of Justice Ananda Chandra Behera on Thursday issued a notice to BJP MLA and fixed the matter to August 30 for filing of written submission and settlement of issues.
