Mumbai: A temporary injunction has been issued against Shherryi Singh, the 2023 Mrs India winner, by the Bombay High Court.
As per this order, Shherryi won’t be able to participate in any national or international beauty contests until her dispute with the organisers of Mrs India pageant is resolved.
Shherryi’s announcement that she would be participating in the Mrs Universe competition – in South Korea from October 2-9 – was contested by Mohini Satyendra Sharma, sole proprietor of ‘Mrs India Inc.’.
Mohini moved the court alleging that Shherryi’s participation would violate the terms of her agreement with the Mrs India pageant. Mohini stressed that she had invested in training, grooming, and mentoring the participants, including Shherryi, and thus, any future for a period of five years in any pageant cannot be without her inclusion/consent.
Mohini’s counsel confirmed in an affidavit dated September 19, 2024 that Shherryi had been served notice regarding the interim application. But the Mrs India winner did not appear in court to contest the claims made against her.
“Hence, I see no reason why interim relief should not be granted in favour of Mohini Satyendra Sharma as prayed for,” said Justice Arif Doctor.
The judge clarified that the order will apply only to Shherryi since Mohini’s application was not pressed against the other contestants, who had appeared and sought an extension of time to file their replies.
The case will next come up for hearing on October 18.
