Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Thursday ruled that apart from the Aadhaar card, government document can be used as an identity proof by the Odia migrant workers at the time of their registration.
Admitting a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Mahendra Parida, the court said that besides Aadhaar card, the migrant workers can use any of 19 government documents as identity proof for registration.
Those not having Aadhaar card or government document can register with a forwarding letter from the Sarpanch of their panchayat, the court said.
Claiming that the mandatory provision of Aadhaar card as the only document for identity proof is a gross violation of the Aadhaar rules, the petitioner had prayed the intervention of the High Court.
