Keonjhar: In a strict action for violating COVID-19 guidelines on the day schools reopened, authorities held up salaries of teachers and other staff of five schools here.
SMR High School, Jharbelda (aided); Government High School, Khireitangiri; Bishoipat Government High School, Jamunaposi; PMB High School, Bolaniposi (new GIA) and Jhalamani High School, Denuan (new GIA) are the schools pulled up for violating COVID-19 guidelines.
The salaries of the teachers and other staff were held up for January 2021, according to an official order from the District Education Office, Keonjhar.
The decision to withhold salaries came after Keonjhar’s district education officer noticed negligence on part of school authorities during his visit to the schools on Friday.
It may be recalled that the State School & Mass Education Department had issued COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the schools well before the schools reopened.
During his visit, the DEO found that the schools concerned were not cleaned and the SOPs issued by the School & Mass Education Department were also not followed.
