Bhubaneswar: We narrowly missed a medal in women’s hockey but this team reflects the spirit of New India- where we give our best and scale new frontiers, tweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi after India lost to Great Britain 3-4 in the match for the bronze medal at Tokyo Olympics.
“More importantly, their success at Tokyo 2020 will motivate young daughters of India to take up Hockey and excel in it. Proud of this team, he added.
Chief Minister Of Odisha Naveen Patnaik congratulated the team for putting up a brave fight against Great Britain.
Shah Rukh Khan, who played the coach of the Indian women’s hockey team in his 2017 blockbuster film ‘Chak De India!’, expressed his heartbreak through a tweet minutes after the nail-biting match.
However, he cheered for the team and said that they have inspired everyone back home, and that itself is a victory.

Cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar praised the team for fighting till the very end. “You may have lost the match but you have won our hearts. We are all very proud of you,” he tweeted.
“Brilliant effort girls. You must hold your heads up high for the magnificent effort and the spirit with which you fought. You have been instrumental in making the nation ho crazy for Hockey again,” tweeted former cricket Virendra Shewag.
Another former cricket Wasim Jaffer wrote: “You gave it your everything. Put your bodies on the line. You should be nothing but proud of this campaign. We all are.”
