Bhubaneswar: With the low-pressure system moving far away from the region, muggy, hot, and highly humid weather conditions have returned to coastal Odisha, causing uncomfortable daytime heat.

According to morning weather observation data recorded at 8:30 am on Thursday, coastal areas in the state are witnessing high relative humidity levels combined with elevated feel-like temperatures (heat index).

Puri recorded a temperature of 32.6°C alongside a humidity level of 81%. This combination has driven the heat index up to a scorching 47°C, making conditions feel significantly hotter than the actual temperature. The capital city of Bhubaneswar is experiencing similar conditions. Morning observations recorded a temperature of 30.2°C and a humidity level of 78%, pushing the perceived temperature (heat index) to 38°C.

Meteorological tracking suggests that these hot and humid conditions are likely to prevail over coastal Odisha throughout the day, bringing lingering daytime discomfort. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions and stay hydrated during peak daytime hours.

While rainfall activity in the state is expected to remain subdued for two days, the intensity of downpour may increase from the morning of August 21. Several parts of the state are also expected to experience thunderstorm activity.

In its midday weather bulletin on Wednesday, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar issued a yellow warning of heavy rain along with thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (30-40 kmph) for Sundaragada, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj districts on August 21-22.

On August 22-23, a yellow warning of heavy rain has been issued for the districts of Baleshwar, Sundaragada, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj. Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (30-40 kmph) may occur at one or two places over the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur,Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj during the period.

On August 23-24, heavy rainfall may continue at one or two places over the districts of Baleshwar, Sundaragada, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj. Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak,Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj during the period.

On August 24-25, a yellow warning of heavy rain has been issued for some places of Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj districts

On August 25-26, heavy rain is likely to lash Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj districts.
