Heat Wave Builds Up, To Scorch Odisha From May 10

Bhubaneswar: After a brief lull, heat wave is back to haunt Odisha with a spike in temperature in the range of 1-3 degree Celsius since Friday.

With thunderstorm likely to subside after Thursday (May 9), the state would hardly get any respite from the grueling heat all through May.

According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), clear sky will see maximum solar insolation and wind pattern (wind speed at night will be mere 14kmph and the wind direction will be away from Odisha coast) in Bay of Bengal will aid heat wave in coming days.

The regional centre of IMD here has forecast a maximum temperature of around 45 degree Celsius in the following week for Jharsuguda, Balangir, parts of Sundargarh, Sambalpur and Dhenkanal.

Except Puri, mercury is likely to shoot up to 40 degree Celsius in all coastal districts. The temperature would hover around 42 degree Celsius in Bhubaneswar in coming days.

Two pockets in western Odisha had seen an appreciable rise of 3 – 5 degrees on Monday and the maximum temperature in the state is likely to shoot up further by the end of this week, it added.

According to the IMD, the hottest place in Odisha, Titlagarh, saw a dip of 4 degrees post Fani. The coastal districts, including Bhubaneswar, also recorded a fall of around 2 degree after May 3 when the severe cyclonic storm made landfall in Puri.

According to Accu Weather, the heat wave will continue to build and expand northward through cyclone-ravaged Odisha and West Bengal in the coming days.

Brahmapur, Puri, Bhubaneswar, Kharagpur and Kolkata will feel the heat as temperature will increase each day into Thursday and remain dangerously high during the weekend, it added.
