Heat Wave: Govt Advises Schools To Implement Morning Classes & Relaxed Uniform Code

New Delhi: Taking into consideration the heat wave conditions prevailing in several parts of the country, the Union Ministry of Education has issued fresh advisory for schools across the country.

The government has suggested early morning class hours and advised schools to adopt adequate hydration measures so that students don’t suffer.

“Class hours must not go beyond noon. Schools should ensure availability of sufficient potable water at multiple places preferably at temperature lower than that of surroundings,” the advisory said.

Balanced nutrition of children should be ensured by serving them hot and fresh food under PM Poshan scheme. The authorities must also keep an eye on the food which may go stale in the extreme heat, the guidelines mentioned.

Stressing on the ease of uniform code, the government has suggested that norms may be relaxed, like ties being done away with.

“Students may be allowed to wear loose and light coloured material dresses. Schools may relax norms regarding uniforms such as ties,’’ the advisory states.

India has experienced the hottest April in 122 years, with average maximum temperature touching 35.9 degree Celsius.

The India Meteorogolical Department (IMD) has forecast an increase in temperature in north India from May 13.

Odisha is also experiencing extremely hot weather.
