Bhubaneswar: Heat wave is likely to sweep most parts of Odisha in the next 72 hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday stated in its mid-day bulletin that some districts in south, north and western Odisha will experience rain and thundershower with gusty surface wind for three days till April 20 under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over Jharkhand and neighbourhood. At the same time, there will be a sharp rise in the day temperature by 2-3 degree Celsius from April 21.

According to well-known meteorologist Dr Surendranath Pasupalak, the blowing of hot wind from west across Odisha has blocked the wind blowing from the sea towards the coast. As a result, the day temperature in most parts of the state has gone up by 2-3 degree Celsius in the last 48 hours.

As the cyclonic circulation over Jharkhand and neighbourhood will weaken  in the next 72 hours, there will be a further rise in day temperature by another 2-3 degree Celsius and can even go up to 43-44 degrees in some parts in the state. The condition will prevail for at least a week.

Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a three-day yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places in these following districts.

April 18
Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh and Rayagada.

April 19

April 20
