Heat Wave: Yellow Warning For 8 Odisha Districts

Bhubaneswar: In view of severe heat wave conditions, the regional meteorological centre here has issued yellow warning for eight districts of Odisha.

“The heat wave conditions will prevail for the next three days. Yellow warning has been issued for Bargarh, Sambalpur, Nuapada, Sonepur, Balangir, Nabarangpur, Deogarh and Jharsuguda.”

Meanwhile, the mercury soared over 40 degree Celsius at 11 places in Odisha with Titlagarh recording the highest of 44.5 degree Celsius followed by Sambalpur (44.4), Balangir (44), Sonepur (44), Hirakud (43.3), Jharsuguda (43), Bhawanipatna (43), Angul (42.1) and Talcher (42.1).

While temperature shot up to 40-45 degree Celsius in western and interior districts of the state, the increase in humidity level and scorching heat is making life miserable for the people of coastal areas.

The maximum temperature is likely to remain above normal by 2-3 degrees for the next two to three days, with light rain and thundershower prediction for Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Sambalpur, Deogarh and Mayurbhanj districts, a Met bulletin said.

While the southwest monsoon advanced to Andaman Sea on Sunday, the monsoon is likely to hit Kerala on June 6 and Odisha on June 14 or 15, according to a forecast by the India Meteorological Department.
