Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued yellow warning of heatwave for Odisha during the next three days.
Warn nights may also prevail for over four days in the state.
According to the weather agency, there will be a gradual rise in the day temperature by 2-3°C during the next 3 days. It will be followed by thunderstorm with lightning and gusty wind at some places. The state may experience light to moderate rain thereafter. “The maximum temperature is likely remain between 39°C to 41°C at a few places in interior Odisha and between 36°C to 38°C in coastal districts of the state during next 4 to 5 days due to prevailing mainly northwesterly/westerly dry air and high solar insolation. The night temperature is also likely rise gradually by 2-3°C during next 3 to 4 days at many places.”
While the mercury may touch 40°C in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack by April 4-5, there will be slight drop in the day temperature the following day.
APRIL 3
Yellow warning: Warm night condition is likely to prevail at one or two places in Balangir, Kalahandi, Boudh, Malkangiri, and Keonjhar.
Light to moderate rain/thundershower may also occur at one or two places in Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, and Nabarangpur.
APRIL 4
Yellow warning
Heatwave conditions may prevail at one or two places in Nayagarh, Boudh, Kandhamal, Cuttack, Jajpur, and Bhadrak.
Warm nights are likely at one or two places in Balangir, Kalahandi, Boudh, Malkangiri, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, and Nayagarh.
APRIL 5
Yellow warning
Heatwave conditions may prevail at one or two places in Nayagarh, Boudh, Kandhamal, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, and Angul.
Warm nights are likely at one or two places in Balangir, Kalahandi, Boudh, Malkangiri, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, and Nayagarh.
APRIL 6
Yellow warning
Heatwave conditions may prevail at one or two places in Nayagarh, Boudh, Kandhamal, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, and Angul.
Warm nights are likely at one or two places in Balangir, Kalahandi, Boudh, Malkangiri, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, and Nayagarh.
Thunderstorm with lightning may also occur at one or two places in Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Balasore.
There is also a forecast for light rain at one or two places in Jharsuguda, and Sundargarh districts.
APRIL 7
Yellow warning
Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40- 50 kmph may occur at one or two places in Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, and Sambalpur.
There is also a forecast for light to moderate rain/thundershower at a few places in North Odisha, South Coastal Odisha and at one or two places in South Interior Odisha.
While there are no weather warning thereafter, light to moderate rain/thundershower is likely across the state during the next two days.
