Bhubaneswar: Heatwave and hot and humid conditions will be back in Odisha again from June 4, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Monday.
The weather agency has predicted thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places in Nabarangpur, Koraput, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khurda, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Kandhamal districts till 8.30 am on Tuesday.
Yellow warning of heatwave has been sounded for one or two places in Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Bargarh, Nuapada, and Kandhamal on June 4-5. Hot and humid weather may also prevail at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts on these two days.
According to the IMD, hot and humid weather is likely to persist at one or two places in these 11 coastal districts on June 6-7. Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri on June 6, and Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Nabarangpur on June 7.
There is no weather warning thereafter but light to moderate rain/thundershower may continue at some places in coastal and interior Odisha on June 8-9.
While there will be no large change in the day temperature during the next 24 hours, mercury levels may gradually rise by 2-3 degree Celsius at many places in the state during the subsequent 4 days, it added.
On Sunday night, nor’wester rain lashed several parts of Odisha, including twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, giving people the much-awaited relief from the scorching heatwave. While trees were uprooted in some places of the capital city, severe waterlogging was also experienced at certain locations. Cuttack and Bhubaneswar recorded 63.1 mm and 91 mm rainfall, respectively.
