Heatwave In India: Centre To Rush Team To Worst-Hit States
New Delhi: Alarmed over deaths due to heatwave in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, the Centre has decided to send special teams to the worst-affected states. Odisha reported one death till Sunday, with unconfirmed reports of 20 heat-related deaths, while 45 people have died in Bihar.
Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted severe to very severe heatwave conditions in various regions such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Vidarbha, Odisha, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana among others.
Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya On Tuesday, chaired a high-level today to review the country’s preparedness on this front. He said a five-member team, comprising senior officials from the Health Ministry and IMD will visit states worst affected by heatwave conditions. He said the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has also been directed to suggest steps to minimise the adverse effect of heatwave. He said a virtual meeting will be held with the health ministers of the states where temperatures are soaring.
