Bhubaneswar: Western Odisha will continue to reel under intense heat wave conditions, while high humidity may make life miserable in coastal areas during the next three days, the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Monday.

The MeT office has issued yellow warning for thunderstorm/lightning and heatwave till 8.30 am on May 9.

Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.

Heat wave condition is also likely to prevail at one or two places in Bargarh, Sonepur, Balangir and Boudh.

A few places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati and Kandhamal and ne or two places in the remaining parts of the state are likely to experience light to moderate rain during this period.

8.30 am on May 7 to 8.30 am on May 8

Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places in Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Bhadrak.

Heat wave condition is also likely to prevail at one or two places in Bargarh, Sonepur, Balangir and Boudh.

A few places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal and one or two places in the rest of Odisha are also likely to experience light to moderate rain during this period.

Heat wave condition is also likely to prevail at one or two places in Bargarh, Sonepur, Balangir and Boudh.

One or two places in coastal Odisha, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Deogarh are likely to experience light to moderate rain during this period.

In a word of caution, the IMD said that while the heat will be tolerable for the general public, it will be of slight health concern for vulnerable people (infants, elderly and sick people). People have been advised to take precautionary measures for hot weather while going outside during the daytime in these areas.

While rainfall activity will continue at a few places for the next two days, there will be no large change in maximum temperature during the next 4-5 days, it said.

Notably, 8 places in the region registered 43 degree Celsius or more on Sunday with Titlagarh being the hottest place in the state at 44.6 degree Celsius followed by  Sonepur (44.5), Balangir (44.3), Boudh (44.3), Nuapada (44), Sambalpur (43.7), Bhawanipatna (43) and Bargarh at 43 degree Celsius.

Bhubaneswar had recorded 33.8 degree Celsius and relative humidity of 95%.

“Maximum temperature was appreciably above normal at many places over interior Odisha, above normal at one or two places in Odisha, below normal at a few places in coastal Odisha, at one or two places in interior Odisha and normal elsewhere,” it added.
