Heatwave To Prevail In All 30 Odisha Districts Today, Mercury To Rise By 2-3°C

Bhubaneswar: As entire Odisha continued to sizzle amid unusually high temperature, severe heatwave conditions may prevail in Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Balangir, Sambalpur, Nuapada, Angul, Jajpur, and Khurda districts on Saturday.

Sharing this information, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar also sounded a red alert for these districts for the day.

Similarly, heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapada, Sonepur, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagarh, Nabarangpur, Deogarh, Bargarh, and Rayagada districts. The MeT Centre sounded orange alert for these districts.

This apart, yellow warning was issued for Koraput and Puri districts where hot and humid conditions are likely to prevail.

By 8.30 in the morning, Talcher recorded the highest temperature of 36.8 degree Celsius, followed by Baripada at 36 degree Celsius, Keonjhar, Rourkela and Balangir at 34.8 degree Celsius and Bhawanipatna & Boudh at 34 degree Celsius.

State capital Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum temperature of 33.4 degree Celsius and Cuttack 33 degree Celsius.

The MeT Centre also predicted that the day temperature in the state is likely to rise by two to three degrees in the next 3 days. The weather department further said that the state is likely to continue experiencing extreme heat for some more days.

The state is likely to experience the longest spells of heatwave in 12-15 years with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing warnings till April 29. Red alert of severe heatwave has also been issued for several districts for two days, starting Friday.
