Heavy Downpour Alert Continues For Odisha Today; Rainfall Deficit Drops To 27%
Bhubaneswar: Odisha may continue to experience heavy rain on Sunday with the low pressure area weakening into a cyclonic circulation over Northwest Bay of Bengal adjoining north Odisha-Gangetic West Bengal coasts.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow warning for heavy rain at one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Puri and Koraput districts.
Bhubaneswar will also witness cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershower.
While there are no further weather warnings, weather agency has forecast light to moderate rain at many places in the state till July 6.
Notably, showers induced by this monsoon season’s first low pressure area in the last 3 days have brought down the rainfall deficit to 27 per cent and accelerated the agricultural activities in the state. While Malkangiri has received 38 per cent excess rain, Mayurbhanj is the only district recording a large deficit of 60 per cent or less. Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada and Koraput fall in the normal rain category.
