Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nowcast warning for 24 districts of Odisha, including the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, till 4.30 pm on Saturday.
Moderate rain/thundershower with one or two intense/heavy spells of rain is likely in some parts of Nayagarh, Cuttack (incluiding Cuttack city ), Khurda (including Bhubaneswar), Balasore, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Boud, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Balangir, Nuapada, Boudh, Kalahandi, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Angul during next three hours.
The MeT office also warned about like waterlogging in low-lying areas, occasionally poor visibility and traffic disruption in urban areas.
Notably, the IMD has issued both yellow and orange (be prepared) warnings of heavy to very heavy rain for several districts till August 9.
The districts which are likely to experience heavy rain at isolated places on Saturday are Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Bargarh, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada. “The monsoon, which remained weak over the state for the last few days, is gaining strength. There will be widespread rain in the state for at least three days from Sunday. There may be extremely heavy rain at some places,” head of the regional IMD centre H R Biswas told the media.
