Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha are likely to face heavy rain coupled with thunderstorm activity in next five days as a low-pressure area persists over Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.
The low-pressure area lay over west central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, south Odisha and north coastal Andhra Pradesh in the morning.
It is likely to move west-north-westwards across south Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh and South Chhattisgarh during next two days.
Under its influence, heavy rain together with thunderstorm activity, lightning and gusty wind over the next five days. The weather agency has issued a yellow warning for different districts up to the morning of September 18.
According to the IMD’s forecast, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and wind speed 30-40 kmph may continue in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi districts on September 13.
Residents in these areas can expect gusty winds of up to 30-40 km/h and potential thunderstorms. The IMD has also issued a yellow warning for 24 districts due to potential thunderstorms and lightning.
The sea is expected to be rough tomorrow, and fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.
