Bhubaneswar:  The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued heavy rainfall warning for 11 districts in Odisha over the next 24 hours, under the influence of a low pressure.

The IMD, in a mid-day bulletin, said that under influence of a cyclonic circulation formed over north-west Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood on Saturday, a low-pressure area has formed on Sunday morning over the north-west and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, off Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coast.  While the low-pressure now lies over north-west Bay of Bengal, off north Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal coast, the extended associated cyclonic circulation is tilting towards south-west direction.

Besides, a monsoon trough running from south-east Rajasthan to cyclonic circulation is associated with the low pressure. Under its influence, there will be intense rainfall in the south coastal, interior south and north and some districts in the north coastal districts of Odisha, which will continue for five days till August 13.

In view of the heavy rainfall, IMD has issued yellow and orange warning for the following districts.

August 9
(Yellow warning)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Balangir, Bargarh, Angul and Nuapada.

August 10
(Orange warning)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Gajapati, Rayagada and Balangir.

(Yellow warning)
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Kandhamal, Boudh, Nayagarh and Nuapada.

August 11
(Yellow warning)
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur and Koraput.

August 12
(Yellow warning)
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kalahandi and Kandhamal.

August 13
(Yellow warning)
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Nuapada, Nabarangpur and Deogarh.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha coast till August 10 and north-west Bay of Bengal and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal till August 11 as the strong monsoon current and surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph will make the sea condition very rough.
