Bhubaneswar: Yellow warning of heavy rain along with thunderstorm and lightning has been issued for several districts of Odisha for 2 days.
According to the midday bulletin of India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rain may lash one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Angul, Koraput, Rayagada and Gajapati till 8.30 am on Saturday. Yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning has also been issued for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput. Light to moderate rain or thundershower may also occur at many places across the state.
On August 26, heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Malkangiri and Koraput districts. Thunderstorm with lightning may occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada and Nabarangpur. There is also a forecast for light to moderate rain at many places in coastal Odisha, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Nawarangpur, Malkangiri, Koraput and at a few places in remaining districts of the state.
Light to moderate rain may occur in South and North Odisha during the next 3 days, the weather agency added.
Despite the heavy rain, Odisha has recorded 773.5 mm rainfall against the normal of 845.8 mm till August 25 this monsoon season. While two districts have received excess rain, 11 have recorded a shortfall and the remaining 17 districts are in the normal category.
