Bhubaneswar: Thunderstorm with lightning activity, locally known as Kalbaisakhi, may continue in Odisha for four more days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Monday.
Heavy rain may also occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Sundargarh, Dhenkanal, Ganjam and Gajapati districts on April 15 and Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada and Koraput on April 16.
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph may occur in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar during the afternoon/evening hours on April 14. Yellow warning has been issued for these districts.
Similar weather conditions may prevail in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Sundargarh, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri on April 15.
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph may continue in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati,Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar on April 16, and Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur and Rayagada on April 17.
While there is no warning thereafter, light to moderate rain may continue at several places in the state during the next 3 days. There will also be no large change in the day temperature during the next 4-5 days, it added.
According to the weather agency, sufficient availability of moisture and local heating are contributing to the ongoing thunderstorm, lightning and gusty wind activity in the state. The Nor’wester typically begin in April and can last until the monsoon season.
