Bhubaneswar: With the formation of another low pressure over the Bay of Bengal on Thursday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rainfall warning for Odisha in the next 24 hours.
“A low-pressure area has formed over the north-west Bay of Bengal off north Odisha and West Bengal coasts under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over north-west and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal off Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts. Apart from this, a monsoon trough from Jharkhand Madhya Pradesh now passes through the centre of the low-pressure area. Under its influence, the rainfall activity in Odisha will increase with heavy rainfall at most places and extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places in the next 24 hours. The rainfall will continue for the next four days till August 16,” the IMD said in a mid-day bulletin.
It further said that there will be more rainfall in the interior pockets of Odisha from August 17.
The IMD has issued orange and yellow warning for the following districts.
August 13
(Orange warning)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places in Malkangiri and Koraput.
(Yellow warning)
Heavy rainfall at one or two places in Ganjam, Puri, Gajapati, Jagatsinghpur, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Sambalpur and Deogarh.
August 14
(Orange warning)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places in Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Balangir and Malkangiri.
(Yellow warning)
Heavy rainfall at one or two places in Koraput, Ganjam, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Sonepur, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Bargarh.
August 15
(Orange warning)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places in Nuapada, Bargarh, Kalahandi, Sambalpur, Balangir, Nabarangpur, Deogarh, Sonepur and Angul.
(Yellow warning)
Heavy rainfall very at one or two places in Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Kandhamal and Boudh.
August 16
(Yellow warning)
Heavy rainfall at one or two places in Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Bargarh and Sundargarh.
Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along and off the Odisha coast on August 14 and 15 as strong monsoon current and surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph over the north-west Bay of Bengal will make the sea condition very rough.
