Heavy Rain To Pound 2 Odisha Dists This Weekend As Anticipated Depression May Intensify Further

Bhubaneswar: Amid the continuing thunderstorm activity and hot and humid weather conditions, heavy rain is likely to pound two districts in Odisha on May 25-26 with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting further intensification of the system after it concentrates into a Depression over central parts of Bay of Bengal by May 24.

According to the weather agency, a Low-Pressure area persists over Southwest and adjoining West central Bay of Bengal. “It is very likely to move northeastwards and concentrate into a Depression over central parts of Bay of Bengal by morning of May 24. It is likely to move northeastwards, intensify further and reach northeast and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal by the evening of May 25.”

Yellow warning of heavy rain has been issued for one or two places in Balasore districts on May 25. Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

Light to moderate rain/thundershower is also likely at many places in north Odisha, and at a few places in south Odisha.

Heavy rainfall may continue at one or two places in Balasore and Bhadrak districts on May 26. Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati. Light to moderate rain/thundershower is also likely at many places in north Odisha, and at a few places in south Odisha.

THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY TO CONTINUE

The MeT office has also forecast hot and humid conditions at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati on May 22. Thunderstorm with lightning may occur at one or two places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, and Kalahandi.

On May 23, thunderstorm with lightning is likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati ,Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi. Hot and humid conditions may also prevail at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

There is a warning of thunderstorm with lightning for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati on May 24.

The day temperature is likely to rise by 2-3 degree Celsius at many places in the state during this period with no large change thereafter.

While there is no further weather warning, light to moderate rain may continue in some parts of the state during the subsequent two days.
