Bhubaneswar: Even as rain accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning continued to lash Bhubaneswar & Cuttack, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued orange warning for these two cities and some places in 6 districts of Odisha till 8 pm on Monday.
According to the weather agency, moderate rain/thundershower with lightning and one or two intense/heavy spell of rain is likely in some parts of Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Cuttack, Jajpur, Kendrapada and Balasore in 3 hours. It has warned of waterlogging in low-lying areas and occasionally poor visibility and traffic disruption in urban areas. “Avoid movement in affected area and do arrangement for drainage of excess water,” it said.
Notably, the IMD has issued issued orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain (7 to 20cm) for isolated places in Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Bhadrak till 8.30 am on Tuesday. Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is also likely at one or two places in Jajpur, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, and Koraput.
The intensity of rain is likely to increase in next two days under the influence of the well-marked low pressure area over North Bay of Bengal, which is likely to move northwestwards and concentrate into a Depression during next 12 hours,
