Bikaner: This historical district in Rajasthan, bang on the border with Pakistan, is no longer known only for its forts and savouries, sold as Bikaneri Bhujia around the world. It has now turned into a hub of cross-border crime, much to the chagrin of the Border Security Force (BSF) and other security agencies.
On Friday, acting on specific intelligence inputs, the BSF seized three kg of heroin, valued at nearly Rs 15 crore in the illicit market, from the 12 KND village of the district.
“The narcotics was seized from the Chakr 3 KNM area of 12 KND village. The operation was carried out under the direction of Vidur Bhardwaj, DIG, Intelligence, Jodhpur. A special search operation was led by Mahesh Chand Jat, Deputy Commandant, Intelligence, along with inspectors Tarachand Yadav, Ajay Kumar Pandey, and Deepak Kumar. A yellow-colored packet, weighing three kg, was detected and seized. The material inside was tested. It was high-grade heroin,” a senior BSF official said.
With vigil being intensified along the Indo-Pakistan border in Punjab, this district in Rajasthan seems to have turned into an operational ground for banned Khalistani outfits. In February 2025, the BSF apprehended Jarnail Singh, a resident of 10 BD, with a country-made pistol and two live cartridges.
Earlier, in April 2024, a Pakistani drone was recovered from the 23 KD area near the Nemichand Border Outpost. In July 2024, two kgs heroin, a motorcycle, and smuggler Hardeep were captured in the same area, though notorious smuggler Charanjit alias Channi managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
On October 2, 2024, the BSF seized 2.2 kgs of heroin and a Pakistani drone from the area of the Deepwala-Ashwini Border Outpost. In that month, another consignment of 2.2 kgs heroin was seized from the jurisdiction of the Pabni Border Outpost.
“The BSF Intelligence Branch in Bikaner continues to work tirelessly to curb narcotics smuggling and criminal activities in the border areas. The BSF has been actively conducting awareness campaigns among local villagers and youths to prevent drug addiction, in an effort to promote a crime-free society,” the official said.
