Berhampur: A wanted inter-state criminal sustained bullet injuries in an encounter with the police under Khallikote police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district in the early hours of Wednesday.
The injured criminal, identified as Dilip Das, was admitted to Community Health Centre (CHC) at Khallikote and later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur after his condition deteriorated.
Over 20 cases of dacoity, snatching, extortions and attempt to murder are pending against this native of Narandeipur village under Banapur police limits in different police stations of Ganjam district and the neighbouring states, police sources said.
The police had been on the lookout for him for over one year. However, He had earlier managed to escape.
Acting on a tip-off about the presence of the history-sheeter at Pustapur near Khallikote, a team of Banapur police raided the area in the morning.
As the police asked him to surrender, Das opened fire on them. The police retaliated and he fell off his bike after being hit in his two legs.
Police later seized a country-made revolver, two live cartridges, Rs 14,000 in cash and the bike from his possession.
