Mumbai: In a commendable gesture, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced an awareness campaign and drive on organ donation.

The ‘Donate Organs, Save Lives’ initiative will be launched during the third and final ODI between India and England to be played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad, on February 12.

The Team India cricketers joined the noble campaign calling on people to pledge their organs so as to save many, many lives.

In a video message shared on social media by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Virat Kohli & Co. are seen explaining the importance of organ donation and appealing fans to register as donors to help fellow-humans in need of organs.

“Score the ultimate century,” Kohli says in the video.

“Be the captain of life,” Shubman Gill urges fans.

“Hit a six for humanity,” say Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel.

“Play the ultimate winning shot,” KL Rahul tells fans.

“On the occasion of the 3rd ODI between India and England in Ahmedabad on February 12th, we are proud to launch an awareness initiative – ‘Donate Organs, Save Lives.’ Sport has the power to inspire, unite, and create lasting impact beyond the field. Through this initiative, we urge everyone to take a step towards giving the greatest gift of all – the gift of life. One pledge, one decision, can save many lives. Let’s come together and make a difference!” ICC chairman Jay Shah posted on X.

It’s a great idea to launch the campaign at Narendra Modi Stadium, which is the world’s biggest cricket stadium. Though India have wrapped up the ODI series by taking a 2-0 lead at Cuttack’s Barabati Stadium on Sunday, around 1 lakh people are expected to turn up for Wednesday’s final match.

And what better way to reach out to the public than through the Team India cricketers.
