The Civic for the first time gets a diesel engine, something which is popular in India.
The new Civic has a distinct styling, with a coupe-like roof-line unlike the low slung demeanour of the older one. All-LED headlamps and C-shaped LED tail lights with a shark-fin antenna at the rear give the car a sharp look.
The car gets a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, auto headlamps, cruise control, 8-way adjustable driver’s seat, electric sunroof, dual-zone climate control and smart key engine on and off feature. Safety wise, the car gets six airbags, ABS, EBD, Agile Handling Assist, stability control and hill start assist as well as Honda’s lane watch camera assist (segment-first) and electric parking brake.
The petrol Civic gets a 1st-in-segment remote engine starter, which can be used to turn on air conditioning before getting into the car.
The 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol motor produces 139 bhp at 6,500 rpm and 174 Nm of peak torque available at 4,300 rpm. The diesel Civic gets a 1.6-litre i-DTEC engine that makes 118 bhp at 4,000 rpm and 300 Nm of peak torque at 2,000 rpm. The petrol engine is mated to a CVT unit while the diesel comes with a manual 6-speed transmission. The petrol doesn’t have a manual option and the diesel doesn’t have an automatic option.
The ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figure for the petrol is 16.5 kmpl and for the diesel it is 26.8 kmpl.
The new Honda Civic will face competition from Toyota Corolla, Skoda Octavia, Hyundai Elantra and Volkswagen Jetta.
