Hot & Humid Weather To Persist In Coastal Odisha For 5 Days; Heatwave Alert For 5 Dists Till May 4

Bhubaneswar: Hot and humid conditions may continue to prevail in coastal Odisha for the next 5 days, director of Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre Manorama Mohanty informed on Sunday.

She said that the day temperature is likely to hover above 40 degree Celsius in interior districts of the state. “Heatwave may persist in Balangir, Nuapada, Bargarh, Kalahandi and Sonepur till June 4 despite the slight fall in the mercury levels. The temperature may further fall by 2-3 degrees in next 2 days,” she said.

Orange warning has been sounded for Balangir and Bargarh and yellow warning for Kalahandi, Nuapada, Sonepur on June 2-3-4, she added.

Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorm with lightning & gusty wind (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) may also continue in some parts of the state on June 2-3. “The intensity of rain will decrease thereafter,” she added.

The MeT office chief further said that the conditions are currently not favourable for onset of southwest monsoon in Odisha. “No forecast has so far been made in this regard,” she said.

The southwest monsoon set in over Kerala on Thursday, two days ahead of its normal onset date of June 1, and is likely to advance further into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, remaining parts of south Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep area and Kerala, some parts of Karnataka and Rayalaseema, some more parts of Tamil Nadu and Southwest Bay of Bengal during the next 2 days.
