Hot & Sultry Weather May Persist In Odisha Till June 19, Heavy Rain Alert For 2 Days

Bhubaneswar: While hot and humid weather along with thunderstorm activity may persist till June 19, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday predicted heavy rainfall at a few places in Odisha on June 20-21.

It further said that conditions are favourable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into some more parts of the state during the next 4 days. Though monsoon had set over Odisha on June 8, its progress has been slow since then, leading to heatwave condition in interior districts and sultry weather in coastal belt. It is currently active in Malkangiri and Koraput districts.

So far, the state has received 36.6 mm of rainfall against the expected 91.4 mm, which is a deficit of 42%.

According to the weather agency, hot and humid weather condition may prevail at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati till June 19.

Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface windspeed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur in Khurda, Nayagarh, Nuapada, Balangir, Boudh, and Kalahandi districts on June 17, and Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Khurda, Nayagarh, Nuapada, Balangir, Boudh, and Kalahandi on June 18-19.

There is a forecast for heavy rainfall at one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Bargarh districts on June 20 and Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal on June 21.

The day temperature may fall by 2-4 degree Celsius at many places in the state after 3 days, it added.
