Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) began a demolition drive in Haladipadia slum at Laxmisagar on Monday.
The authorities demolished six houses in the slum, which were built on government land.
Notably, the Laxmisagar police had received complaints on brown sugar trading from these six houses in the slum.
Besides, the police had information that a group of anti-socials and members of a racket run by narcotic dealer and smuggler of Khurda Chhota were in engaged in brown sugar smuggling in the slum.
Notably, the Khurda police and the district administration had recently demolished a mansion of Chhota, on the outskirts of Khurda town.
Sources said that more houses belonging to the brown sugar smugglers in the slum will be identified and demolished in phases.
