Height has always fascinated human beings, be it men or women.
Most young boys dream of growing six feet tall and more, but not everyone’s wish is fulfilled. So is there a way of increasing one’s height?
It seems there is.
Alfonso Flores, a 28-year-old from Dallas, USA, was 5 feet 11 inches tall and desperately wanted to bridge the gap that would take him to the six-feet mark like his idols Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Phil Jackson, reported timesnownews.com.
Flores’ hopes soared when he came to know of Dr Kevin Debiparshad of The LimbplastX Institute. The surgeon performed a limb-lengthening surgery on Soares, after which he now stands 6 feet, 1 inch tall.
“This is something that I’ve really wanted to do… since I was 12. I decided to go for 6ft-1 because I started off at a great height and wanted to retain as much of my athletic ability and range of motion as possible. I seem to have retained all of it because I am able to squat the same as before,” said Flores.
His family and friends had apprehensions about the ‘crazy’ surgery, and tried him to dissuade him from going ahead with the procedure.
But Flores had faith in the surgeon and underwent the cosmetic limb-lengthening surgery, which cost him $75,000 (nearly Rs 55 lakh),
Explaining the surgery, Dr Debiparshad said it is an elective procedure where the leg bones are cut to insert a device that slowly stretches them out to extend a person’s height.
“It’s an X-ray based surgery where I make four to six small incisions into the leg, allowing access to the hollow part of the bone, where I insert a device that responds to an external remote control that the patient controls at home,” he said.
