How To Watch Netflix, Hotstar, Prime & Other Video Streaming Services On Any TV
You do not need to upgrade to a smart TV to watch your favourite shows online. Here are a few ways you can convert your old ‘dumb’ TV into a smart one:
Amazon Fire Stick Amazon’s Fire Stick is a simple device that you can plug into an HDMI port on your TV and watch Netflix, Prime, Hotstar, Sony LIV and many more streaming services. The Fire Stick connects to a WiFi and streams directly. The remote has in-built voice search as well. The basic one costs Rs 3,999 and the 4K device costs Rs 5,999.
Google Chromecast Chromecast is another popular method to watch streaming content on your TV. Like the Fire Stick, Chromecast also connects to an HDMI port on your TV. The Chromecast is controlled from your phone or tablet. By clicking on the cast button from your YouTube or Netflix app, the device will stream it directly from the internet.
Connect Your Laptop The simplest method is to connect your laptop to your TV using an HDMI cable just as you would connect a projector. You can use the DTH cable connected. The laptop screen is mirrored onto the bigger display. You can choose to turn off the display on your laptop by going to the Display menu in control panel or searching for it in the start search box. From the menu, choose ‘Connect an external display’. Then select ‘Extend these displays’ from the ‘Multiple displays’ drop-down menu.
Apart from these techniques, you can also stream videos using media players such as Roku or gaming consoles such as Xbox and Xbox 360.
