Huge Cache Of Brown Sugar & Ganja Seized In Separate Raids
Bhubaneswar/Cuttack/Khurda: In a major cracking down on illegal possession of contraband, excise sleuths and police seized a huge cache of brown sugar and ganja at four different places in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Khurda and Malkangiri districts.
In Bhubaneswar, excise sleuths seized brown sugar worth Rs 20 lakh from Haladipadia slum at Laxmisagar and arrested a woman, identified as Mahima, in this connection.
Acting on a tip-off regarding ganja smuggling, a team of excise officials raided a house and recovered 200 gram brown sugar.
“The accused woman used to procure the banned substance from Balasore and Kolkata. She used to supply the same to different parts of the state through agents, including minor boys,” an excise official informed.
In another incident, excise flying squad officials seized 10 gram of brown sugar and ganja weighing around 8 kg following simultaneous raids at Gandhi Nagar in Cuttack and Nuagaon of Khurda district. Two persons were arrested for allegedly possessing the contraband.
Similarly, police seized 3.5 quintal of ganja from an ambulance at Khairput in Malkangiri district. The driver of the vehicle managed to escape from the spot.
Sources said the police intercepted the ambulance after noticing suspicious activities of the driver. Upon searching, the cops recovered the ganja from it.
