Phulbani: In a major achievement, security personnel recovered a huge quantity of explosive materials suspected to have been hidden by Maoists inside a forest in Odisha’s Kandhamal district on Thursday.
Swiftly acting on an intelligence input, an intensive search operation was launched inside Gumma forest under the jurisdiction of Kotagarh police station following instruction from Superintendent of Police Harisha B.C.
Police sources said a team of the District Voluntary Force (DVF), together with a bomb disposal squad, launched an intensive combing operation in the area.
The bomb squad first sanitised the site to rule out the presence of booby traps or pressure bombs. Upon digging at a specific location, the team recovered 600 detonators and a remote-control device, the sources said.
It is suspected that the explosives were hidden by Maoists with a plan to use these against security personnel engaged in anti-Naxal operations.
Search operations have been further intensified in the area to ascertain possible presence of more hidden materials.
