Berhampur: A huge quantity of medicines supplied by the government was found dumped along the road in Sanakhemundi area of Odisha’s Ganjam district on Saturday.
The incident was reported from Bijay Adikandapur Teliapalli under Sanakhemundi block of the district. The dumped medicines included tablets, capsules and syrups, sources said.
Voicing concern over the incident, locals said while some of the medicines were found to have expired, bulk of the discarded ones still are fit for use till April 2025. Such wastage of medicines deprives needy people of life-saving drugs, they said.
These medicines were stated to have been supplied by the government under the free distribution programme launched for the benefit of the public.
While the circumstances under which the medicines were thrown were yet to be ascertained, the authorities concerned are trying to find out who was behind the bulk disposal.
