New Delhi: Popular singer Daler Mehndi was on Thursday sentenced to two-year imprisonment in a 19-year-old human trafficking case.
The Patiala House Court upheld the 2018 verdict by a trial court which had convicted Daler in a case related to pigeon pelting in 2003 and sentenced him to two years in jail.
Daler has been taken into custody by police and his application for release on probation dismissed, said complainant’s lawyer advocate Gurmeet Singh.
Daler’s elder brother Shamsher Mehndi was, on September 19, 2003, accused of illegally taking people abroad through pigeon pelting music bands.
An FIR was registered in the case. Daler’s name came up in the case during the investigation.
A case was registered against the singer in 2003 itself. Fifteen years later, a lower court sentenced him to 2 years in prison, which has now been upheld by sessions court as well.
Daler can challenge the verdict in the High Court and Supreme Court.
