Bhubaneswar: Popular singer Humane Sagar’s mother on Sunday lodged a complaint with Markat Nagar Police in Odisha’s Cuttack city, seeking a transparent and evidence-based investigation into “untimely and suspicious” demise of her son.
The 36-year-old singer died on November 17 while undergoing treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar. Sagar was admitted to the premier health facility on November 14 and was diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia, acute chronic liver failure (ACLF), multi-organ dysfunction syndrome and other complications. It was then alleged that the singer was being forced to work despite his poor health, leading to his untimely death.

“The circumstances surrounding his death are not clear to the family. I request investigation into whether there was any foul play, poisoning/intoxication, physical harm, abetment, criminal negligence, harassment/threat/pressure, conspiracy, financial motive, or destruction/tampering of evidence, including digital evidence,” Sagar’s mother Sephali Suna said in her complaint.
She also requested the police to examine individuals who were closely associated with her son over the last three to four years.
Suna also mentioned the mother-son duo was subjected to severe mental, social, professional, emotional and physical harassment by Sagar’s wife, Shreya Mishra.
Born on November 25, 1990 in Titilagarh, Balangir, Sagar, who was pursuing MBBS at VIMSAR-Burla, left studies in the first year itself to pursue music full-time. He had inherited music from his father and grandfather. The breakthrough came in 2012 when he won Season 2 of the Voice of Odisha reality show. He stepped into Ollywood with the title track of Ishq Tu Hi Tu in 2015, composed by Abhijit Majumdar. The song was an instant blockbuster and catapulted him to fame. He followed it up with hits like Tate Gaai Dele, Malka Malka, Dheere Dheere Bhala Paigali, Sabu Najara Lage Prema Najara, Sun Zara, Bhabiba Agaru Pakhare Thibi, and Prema Tora Badmaas.
He lent his voice to more than 100 Odia songs, earning widespread admiration and a devoted fanbase. Rising to fame with his debut song Prem Hei Jaere from the 2014 album Something Something-2, Sagar quickly became a household name. His voice and emotional depth spanned every genre—from romantic melodies to soulful devotional numbers, from heart-wrenching songs of separation to high-energy dance tracks.
