Bhubaneswar: As the Brahmani river swelled, water levels rose alarmingly in surrounding areas.
Thousands were affected, including around 300 students who were stranded at the Kulasahi residential school in Pattamundai, in Odisha’s Kendrapara district.
Amid concerns over the safety of trapped children, officials of the district administration are monitoring the situation closely, with the focus on their immediate well-being.
The river continues to be in spate, and further action will be taken depending on the water level around the school. There is no road connectivity because of the flooding.
According to a panchayat samiti member, floodwater is about five feet deep inside the Kulasahi Ashram School. Worryingly, the school is located near the riverbed where crocodiles are present.
Locals have requested the administration to immediately arrange boats to rescue the students.
